I have bought Xiaomi x20max because it had anti tangle brush(it cuts the hair with razor attachment, I think it’s kid safe) and washes the mops with hot water and then dries it. I use it daily since I have dogs and cats and me at home shedding hair constantly, it’s working great doesn’t stuck (maybe couple of times) never fell from the stairs, and also I keep home tidier so it doesn’t stuck on things.

I was eyeing roborock qrevo but Xiaomi got discount so I got that one and quite happy with it

i wipe up the big greasy stuff first and let my dreame X60 max do the rest. we get those greasy footprints and little marks around the kitchen all the time. i use the cleaning solution and hot water mopping there, and i’m usually not going back over the floor afterward.

I don't know about warranties in the US, but here in Singapore I bought Dreame (X40 Pro Ultra) because it had two years warranty when Roborock was only one year. It has needed service once for a faulty wheel motor. It cleans our condo's common areas every night and bedrooms 3x per week (1020 hours of use currently).

These things have tons of moving parts and will break down eventually. If you're handy, most of the parts are available on AliExpress though.

Just stop buying new. Plenty of lightly used older items with stellar quality to be stubled upon!

Just Got an upright 1980 electrolux model 1451 for free and the thing has lifetime belts (2) with a magnetic clutch for the brushroll - its the only vacuum i have that does thick shag beautifully with no slowdown of brush roll etc.

There's a few not too desirable models that are pretty bulletproof and stupid cheap used. It's honestly pointless to build your own.

Kirby, Electrolux, Shop Vac, and a bunch of commercial varient Sanitares and such.

I grabbed an Electrolux for $20 from a thrift store and use it for the car, garage, woodworking, etc. Could have used it in my house just the same, but decided not to. It's at least 25 years old and works great.

I’ve loved my Hizero. It is quiet, cleans very well, picks up debris as well as mops, and does not leave an overly wet floor. The main drawbacks are it is a bit slow, as you should let the machine pull itself rather than pushing it. This allows it to grab dirt off the floor. The other is emptying and cleaning the machine is a step that you can’t ignore. I actually love this step, as I see how well the machine works. Look them up and you can see if there is a model you prefer. A local independent vacuum store where I live also sells them.

If you mop once a week. Then getting the wet vacuum is good. As for brand. I have no specific recommendations. Xiaomi ok. Russell Taylor battery not good. Mine now are hizero. Roborocks looks cool I wish I knew earlier.

I know this is an old post; but I have the XR and it's a fantastic little machine, right up there with Sebos Felix, D4, and the criminally unknown Tefal X-Force 15.60 in terms of how good it is and how much I enjoy using it (performance is also in line with my excellent Shark IP3251, but we won't mention that here!).

Anyway, how did you modify the Miele bags? I have the L1 cat and dog bags (think they're called TU?) and would love to know how to adapt.

Vacuum few times a year. Used to have Phillips but the accessory broke. Switched to Tefal TW4B71. Significantly less noisy, and lighter to carry.

It should cost between $140 to $200 depending on the shopping platform/store you are buying from and the promotion period

Do you have any specific requirements in mind?

Fellow cat owner here. We use a Karcher VC3+ at home. It’s the bagless kind. Got it awhile back but It’s definitely under $200. Very easy to use and cleans real well. Simple to clean after use too.

We also have a robovac for daily cleaning but unfortunately that’ll be out of the budget. It also scares the heck out of our cat 😆

I own 2x Samsung Jet series, one for each floor. My rationale:

Same 200W engine that ALL the manufacturers use since the 2019 and Dyson v5 - including Shark and Miele

Incredibly modular and parts are available online; engine units are £35 used where I am, every single component is modular and replaceable if it breaks

Replaceable battery like the Dyson

No screen like the Dyson. I don’t need another thing that breaks

motorized heads like all manufacturers since Covid

Also, handheld vacs are never long lasting. They will fail, crack, snap, etc.

I've used Russell Taylor for few years, and it's holding on. There's tape here and there, but still going.

hot take - skip sebo unless you like operating a clunky device. i'm now with bosch series 2 bagged vacuum and it's so compact, yet powerful that I just can't imagine going back to bigger machines.

I bought the Bosch Unlimited 10 and it's amazing. Tbf upgraded from a very cheaper Bissell but the design is very thoughtful and works like a charm

I prefer electrolux than Dyson. Dyson is overpriced and overrated. Electrolux Q6 is better and more durable

I have the Roborock F25 Ultra Steam and I love it. Self propulsion is a bit strong, but steam is great.

Dyson saja. Ease of mind. Mine had been used for years, daily use it to vacuum 1st floor and stairs.
Roborock also ok.

I narrowed my search down to the Bissell Powerclean Fur Guard, the Tineco Floor 1 S 5 and the Levoit Vortex IQ Pro.

I have 2 cats and both carpet and linoleum. After reading many reviews comparing the Pick up percentages, the canister seal and suction power, I ended up with the Levoit Vortex IQ Pro.

I had one of the Tineco mops, and it was great, but I will say one of the motors it uses for self cleaning stopped working not quite 2 years into owning it. I couldn’t get help through customer support or find any resolution online so I ultimately replaced it with the bissel crosswave. It doesn’t have the bells and whistles but was about half the cost and honestly works better. It too has a self clean option!

Sorry but there isn't really anyone here who's going to recommend a bagless Shark or Shark anything

There are a few bagged canister vacuums that are much better and more durable than the bagless canisters under $200. The Bissell Zing bagged and Eureka Mighty Mite are both under $100 and have hepa bags available. The Kenmore KW3010 $59 has large hepa bags and a long 30 ft cord. It would be my pick under $100 because the Bissell and Eureka have much shorter cords.

Under $200 I like the Powr-Flite Newton $169 and Simplicity Jill $179. They’re both better than the Bissell and Eureka.

With hardwood, carpet and a dog, I would skip Shark and Eureka if your priority is buying something that will last.

If you prefer a canister, I’d look at the Sebo E3. If you prefer an upright, the Sebo Felix would be my pick. Both have the ET-1 powerhead for the carpet and a separate parquet tool for the hardwood, so you’re not compromising on either surface. The brushroll also pops out easily, which is really helpful with dog hair.

They’re bagged, have excellent S-Class hospital-grade filtration, and are designed to be maintained and repaired rather than replaced when something eventually wears out. Both also come with Sebo’s 10-year warranty when purchased from an authorized dealer.

If you have a local dealer, I’d try both. They clean very similarly, so it really comes down to whether you prefer using a canister or an upright.

I use a Miele C3 for weekly cleans (excellent) alongside a Shark cordless upright for spot cleans (not bad not amazing - bought secondhand and wouldn't pay full price for it). A Roborock S6 robot vac also runs daily (bought in 2020 so I defo got my money's worth).

I also have a cheap-ass Airbot cordless that I use to vacuum up crumbs from the table, etc. That thing has been a real godsend.

Vacuum Buying Guide

What to Look For

  • Dyson remains the benchmark for raw suction power, lightweight agility, and widely available spare parts
  • Wet & dry smart vacuums (Dreame, Tineco, Roborock) clean sticky kitchen spills and mop in a single pass with self-cleaning hot air drying
  • Corvan and local brands offer great anti-tangle pet rollers, dust-revealing LED floor lights, and responsive local service centers (PJ)
  • Budget cordless models (PerySmith, Russell Taylors, Gaabor, Airbot) provide solid daily dust pickup under RM250 - RM450
  • LED floor lights make invisible fine dust on tiled and vinyl flooring impossible to miss

What to Watch Out For

  • Cordless battery life drains fast on Max/Boost mode (often lasting only 10-15 minutes)
  • Wet & dry vacuums will develop bad odors if you forget to empty and rinse the dirty water tank immediately after use
  • Out-of-warranty motor and battery repairs on high-end vacuums can be painfully expensive
  • Budget vacuum rollers easily tangle with long hair and require manual cutting and maintenance
  • Built-in battery packs can be difficult to swap on models without click-in removable batteries

Who Should Buy

  • •Pet owners constantly fighting cat/dog fur on sofas, rugs, and floors
  • •Busy households wanting an all-in-one wet/dry vacuum to vacuum and mop floor stains at once
  • •Condo and apartment owners who want lightweight, wall-mounted cordless convenience
  • •Budget-conscious buyers looking for reliable local warranty and cheap replacement filters

Who Should Avoid

  • •Anyone who dislikes the chore of emptying and cleaning wet-vac dirty tanks after every mopping session
  • •Users expecting one battery charge to deep clean an entire 3-storey landed house on max power
  • •People who tend to neglect washing HEPA filters (clogged filters quickly burn out vacuum motors)

How to Compare Vacuum

Key factors to evaluate before making your decision

1
Suction Power (AirWatts / kPa) & Runtime on Eco vs Boost Mode
2
Wet & Dry Mopping with Roller Self-Cleaning & Hot-Air Drying Dock
3
Dust-Revealing LED Floor Headlight & Anti-Tangle Brush Design
4
Removable / Click-in Battery vs Built-in Battery Pack
5
Weight, Ergonomics & One-Touch Dustbin Emptying
6
Washable HEPA Filtration & Replacement Filter Availability
