Earfun Air Pro 4 are fantastic. Usually retail for £99 but you can find them discounted for £67 or sometimes cheaper. Surprisingly very good! I usually look for good bass and clear vocals and these definitely deliver

I'm about to buy the Baseus Bowie MC2 if you want to look into those! they get good reviews, but you never know whats real with affiliate marketing.

Also on my radar were the Soundpeats UU2.

Soundpeats H3 More like an IEM but impressive. A bit bulky, but sound really nice

The CMF Buds Pro 2 have also entered the chat
More comfortable than Airpods Pro 3 and with the app EQ, punch way above their weight

When I got my first ones (Jabra Elite 75t) my ears hurt quite often, smaller tips helped but not all the way. People praised those for their comfort. Someone on Reddit said to keep using them, ears need time to adjust. And it worked for me.

Recently I’ve switched to the Samsung Galaxy buds 3 pro. No pain at all

I'm looking for new buds and tbh this confuses me. Saying ANC doesn't block sharp sounds? I'm coming from Jabra' discontinued buds venture the Pro 7's and their ANC is insane. It can almost feel like a vacuum in your ear when maxed out, and then once youre listening to music or whatever, I could click my fingers and barely hear it at all. I walk around cities with these in and actually the ANC is TOO good. Like you could get hit by a car if you don't pay attention because you won't hear a thing!

Absolutely agree, which is why audio quality between wireless and wired headphones is negligible at best, especially when most people using wired are simply using stock apple wired buds and nothing special.

I can answer both. From an ecosystem perspective fast pairing, quick access panel setting and codecs. My Buds 4 pro Also pair well to a work Lenovo laptop and Teams work's great something my apple earpod friends complain about i.e pairing. Now you do get a windows driver error but they still worl. Apparently Microsoft does offer a Samsung buds app from the store but I can't download as work policies restrict

HiFiMan Sundara. I have Senn 650, AKG 702, Beyerdynamic 990s, all solid. Sundara benefits from more a bit more grunt than my iPhone can provide, but they’re not crazy hard to drive. Great soundstage, comfortable, all my other phones sit on their cases for the most part. I personally don’t really care much for the HD650, but that’s my own specific taste, not an issue with the phones. My second place would be Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro 80 ohm for casual listening, and the 250 ohm for mixing/mastering.

My rule of thumb, the one with better noise canceling or isolation. Your hearing will thank you later. So, bone conduction will be in my no-no list for commuting.

Another thing, i realized is that my 2 tws (hifiman svanar & moondrop nekocake) are not good with calls especially in noisy environment. The listener usually struggling to listen to me talking. So you might need to consider some trade off on that. The office-provided jabra/ epos headset is definitely on another level with calls. I can have my wife on the blender beside me while the listener can’t notice at all the noise. It’s me who’s struggling to listen. 🤣

But in the end, it your sound preference what matters. Just go to the shop eg stars picker and audition. Then, you’ll know which one.

Bluetooth sucks is the short answer. Always need charging when I want them. Too goddamned expensive for decent ones. I never minded the cable and missed it when it was gone.

Edit: also, I can’t tell half the time when people have their stupid fucking AirPods in their ears. When I’ve got my wired earbuds in, you know it.

I bought the MC2 and was very impressed with them. They aren't airpods sound but they are much better than I anticipated and had good base. For the money I couldn't be happier and they go on sale a lot. My guess is they will be around 40 bucks for Prime days in October

I’ve been a longtime wireless ANC earbud user, and an even longer wired earbud user… I’ve noticed (old and young) people in the office wearing USB-C Apple EarPods recently…

Did a Google, and they are only $20!? That’s almost insta-buy territory, and very useable in an office environment, where you want some audio, but no bulk to carry, and ideally open back… having previously owned some, they sound quite good, and better for calls as others have mentioned.

FWIW, I think options like Moondrop USB-C earbuds have the potential to be even more popular, but the Apple EarPods are exceptionally accessible to buy…. Most retail stores have them in stock, or online, Apple do free 1-day shipping in many countries , and they are a known quantity.

Honor Earbuds Open. Super comfy, sound great, and they have ANC.

As a subsidiary of Huawei they're embargoed in the US. If that doesn't offend your delicate patriotism, then Aliexpress and be prepared to Google for the Honor AI Space apk or whatever iPhone users do to install apps the Apple App Store refuses to offer. Worth it.

Or Shokz Openfit Pro are probably comparable but without the embargo struggles.

In any case, air coupled open earbuds are more comfortable to me than silicone ear hole tips, and the stick style like Airpods like to pop out of my ears. The ANC on open earbuds probably won't block out a lawnmower, but works well enough for flushing a toilet.

people say its a dumb tiktok trend but theres actual benefits to it. the sound quality for the price is way better. obv $200 jbl wireless are gonna sound better than like $30 wired skullcandy but for the price i much prefer the sound of cheap wired vs cheap wireless. then theres the versatility. wired works well if youre around equipment that uses aux cords, like pianos, amps, laptops, etc and dont really wanna carry around/like overear headphones. theres also the fact that they dont need to charge and theyre way harder to lose since theyre one single body instead of earbud 1, 2, and case.

I am not Gen Z but I never gave up on wired earbuds. I don't wanna spend a fortune on something that I will be replacing every 2 years. A pair of JBL is enough.

(Recently got a BT headset, tho. It is convenient in some places but the music doesn't feel like the wired earbuds.)

Earbuds Buying Guide

What to Look For

  • Extensive variety of affordable TWS options (Soundcore, EarFun, Realme, Edifier) offering solid ANC under RM200-RM300
  • Seamless multi-point connectivity lets you switch instantly between laptop work calls and phone music
  • Clear AI-enhanced mic noise reduction makes online meetings (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams) hassle-free
  • Compact, pocketable charging cases with fast charging provide all-day battery life on the go
  • Transparency / Ambient modes allow safe commuting and awareness of train announcements and office surroundings

What to Watch Out For

  • Mic clarity can still pick up wind noise or background chatter in loud, crowded LRT/MRT stations on budget models
  • Budget ANC struggles with high-pitched chatter and sudden loud sounds compared to constant low engine rumbles
  • Ear fatigue or canal pressure can occur during back-to-back work meetings or extended commuting sessions
  • Small form factor makes individual buds easy to drop or misplace on transit
  • Battery runtime degrades naturally after 1.5–2 years of daily charging cycles

Who Should Buy

  • •Daily commuters (LRT/MRT/bus) looking for ANC to block out engine roar and ambient train chatter
  • •Office workers and remote professionals needing clear mics and reliable connectivity for video calls
  • •Multitaskers who need seamless multi-point pairing between phone and laptop
  • •Casual listeners wanting compact, sweat-resistant earbuds for daily podcasts, music, and gym workouts

Who Should Avoid

  • •Critical audiophiles seeking wired studio-grade lossless fidelity and balanced armature tuning
  • •Users taking frequent calls in extremely loud or windy outdoor environments who need dedicated boom mics
  • •People who dislike the sealed in-ear feeling and prefer open-ear or over-ear headphones
  • •Buyers expecting 4+ years of battery longevity without performance degradation

How to Compare Earbuds

5
Ergonomic Fit & Long-Session Wearing Comfort
6
Bluetooth Stability & Codec Support (AAC, SBC, LDAC)
7
Water & Sweat Resistance Rating (IPX4/IPX5 for workouts and rain)
